What You’ll Learn

✅ Set up your machine for topstitching
✅ Sew evenly along the edge for a polished finish
✅ Adjust stitch length for strength and style

What You’ll Need

🧵 Woven fabric (scraps work great for practice!)
📏 Seam allowance: I’ll be stitching ⅛ inch or ¼ inch from the edge, but adjust as needed.
🧷 Matching or contrasting thread for a decorative effect

Step 1: Press Your Seam

✨ Press your seam flat and then press it to one side. A crisp edge makes topstitching easier and more precise.

Step 2: Set Your Stitch Length

🧵 Increase your stitch length to 3.0–3.5mm for topstitching. This gives the stitches a clean, professional look.

Step 3: Align and Sew

📌 Place your fabric under the presser foot and align the edge with your desired seam allowance (⅛ or ¼ inch). Sew slowly and keep the stitch line straight by using the presser foot edge as a guide.

💡 Tip: For extra precision, use an edge stitch or topstitching foot if available.

Step 4: Secure and Press

✂️ Backstitch at the beginning and end to secure your stitches. Press the seam again for a crisp, professional finish.

Bonus Tip

👍 Topstitching works beautifully on denim, bags, and anywhere you want a decorative or reinforced seam.

And that’s it! You’re ready to topstitch like a pro. Happy sewing! 🧵😊

Pro Tips

  • Press your fabric before topstitching for crisp lines
  • Use a longer stitch length for even, decorative stitches
